Jacob Lehman was born in El Paso, Texas. He began his coaching career at the age of sixteen years old with various YMCA leagues and upon graduating high school, began college at TCU and was given the opportunity to assist Jaimie Dixon and the men’s basketball team with film breakdown, and recruiting graphics. After his short time with the men’s basketball team, he decided to get into coaching at the middle school or high school level and was given a chance to start off as an assistant coach at Trinity Valley School. Currently, Lehman is working on his Masters in Educational Administration from Texas Wesleyan University. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Christian University in the Summer of 2021.
Coach Lehman is starting his first year as the head basketball coach at IL Texas Saginaw after spending four years at Trinity Valley School where he served as the middle school A-Team head coach, JV head coach, and varsity assistant coach. During his first year as middle school A-Team head coach at Trinity Valley, he finished the team off with a 15-2 overall record and won the DFW Tournament against St. Marks School of Texas for the first time in school history. In addition to serving as a coach at Trinity Valley School, Coach Lehman also serves as the assistant coach for the Dallas Christian College Women's Basketball program under legendary coach Larry Tidwell. Lehman is coming on his seventh season coaching AAU and will be coming on his fifth season with Texas Express having served time with the DFW Hawks and the A-Game Athletes prior to this stop. He currently serves on the advisory board for the club.
Coach Lehman requires all of his athletes to play at the highest of their potential and brings energetic passion to coaching. His philosophies and strategies come from the knowledge he has had the privilege to receive from previous collegiate coaches and places a high standard on showing up on time, asking questions, and being a coachable athlete. Lehman is an extremely competitive coach and expects his athletes to seep extreme competitiveness as well. Though he enjoys seeing the team develop collectively, there is also an emphasis on winning games. One of his favorite quotes that best describes his competitive drive comes from Vince Lombardi when he says, “everyone has a will to win but very few people have the will to prepare to win”. Lehman is a firm believer that you practice how you play – if the preparation and practices are all game-like, there should be no problem on game day.
